Prospects for play brighten

Centurion - The possibility of some play on day one of the first Test between South Africa and India improved dramatically early on Thursday afternoon.

The morning’s heavy rain cleared around lunch time and since then the sun has been shining. Prospects for play at SuperSport Park now look reasonably good.

The umpires inspected the pitch and outfield at around 13:35 and announced that they will take another look at 14:20.

If they are satisfied with conditions, play could get underway around 15:00.

Play was scheduled to start at 10:30 this morning, but rain ensured no cricket has been possible thus far.
