Johannesburg - Proteas bowler, Morne Morkel, will be unable to bowl any further in the current Test against India at the Wanderers after spraining his ankle on Friday afternoon.
"Morne landed awkwardly on his right ankle while fielding this afternoon.
"Clinical examination and a subsequent MRI scan confirmed a Grade 1 ankle sprain," Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee explained.
"The recovery period is usually 7-10 days and he is doubtful for the second Test starting in Durban in less than a weeks time."
Proteas management confirmed that Morkel will bat in South Africa's second innings if absolutely necessary.
