Bowlers shine in SA win

Centurion - South Africa's bowlers, as well as some excellent fielding and catching have helped the home team to an emphatic 33 run win against India in the fifth and final ODI at SuperSport Park, Centurion.

After a rain affected innings from South Africa, in which they posted 250/9 in the revised 46 overs, India's batsmen were not allowed to settle into their run chase by the South African attack.

Pace bowlers Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn, as well as seamer Lonwabo Tsotsobe and spinners Robin Peterson and Johan Botha backed up a fine batting display by Hashim Amla (116 not out) by steaming through the Indian top order early on, and remaining batsmen through the rest of the innings.

The Indians had been required to score a revised target of 268 in 46 overs, but the early demise of Rohit Sharma for just 5 (b Tsotsobe) and Virat Kohli for 2 (c de Villiers b Morkel) put them on the back foot early on.

Opener Parthiv Patel offered some resistance, scoring 38 before falling to Morkel, but failures by MS Dhoni (5), Yuvraj Singh (8) and Suresh Raina (11) reduced the visitors to 74/6.

Some powerful hitting by wonder batsman Yusuf Pathan, who smashed 105 off just 70 balls, including 8 fours and 8 sixes kept India in the hunt, but he finally fell to Morne Morkel as he skied one trying to clear the ropes again.

Once Pathan was gone, some ongoing efforts by the ever-capable Zaheer Khan kept India's hopes alive, but he eventually fell to Tsotsobe for a decent 24 runs.

India ended their innings on 234 all out.

Morne Morkel ended as the pick of South Africa's bowlers on the day with figures of 4 wickets for 52 runs in his 8 overs, with Dale Steyn (2 wickets for 32 runs in 9 overs), Robin Peterson (1 wicket for 47 runs in 7 overs), Lonwabo Tsotsobe (2 wickets for 57 runs off 7.2 overs) and Johan Botha (1 wicket for 33 in overs) offering excellent support.

South Africa have won the series 3-2.

Hashim Amla won the Man of the Match award, with Morne Morkel claiming the Man of the Series award.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
