India force the follow-on

Ahmedabad - Alastair Cook and Nick Compton dug in to end the day without loss after being forced to follow-on in the first Test against India.

India were in a commanding position leading by 219 runs with two days remaining in the Test.

India had earlier taken England's last seven first-innings wickets by tea, with their spinners R Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha bagging eight wickets in the innings, to confirm the follow-on.
