Smith ruled out of IPL

Cape Town - Proteas skipper Graeme Smith has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL after fracturing his right middle finger while taking a catch.

Smith, who represents the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, confirmed the news on his Twitter page.

Hi everyone!!so sad to be telling u that I have a double fracture in my right middle finger,so will be missing the ipl!very disappionted!!

I hurt it taking the catch off sehwag last night wen I landed my finger got hooked in the ground!!wish the royals all the best for ipl

Smith went for an X-ray after the match, which confirmed the worst.

The Proteas will be sweating over Smith's availability for the ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean starting on April 30.

Smith scored 18 runs off 17 balls in the Royals' defeat to the Delhi Daredevils on Monday. Smith scored 26 off 22 balls in the Royals' only other match in this year's IPL, a four-run loss to the Mumbai Indians.
