Pretoria - Rohit Sharma top-scored with 38 as the Deccan Chargers reached 145-6 against the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
Deccan were unable to put together any meaningful partnership except for a 33-run stand for the fifth wicket between Sharma and Venugopal Rao (28).
Sharma's innings included two boundaries an a six.
Pace bowler Dhawal Kulkarni bowled economically to take 1-21 from his four overs, while Lasith Malinga produced some marvelous yorkers and took 1-24 in his four overs.
Deccan got off to a bad start, losing opener Herschelle Gibbs in the first over after he attempted to drive a Kulkarni short-pitched delivery only to nick the ball to Sachin Tendulkar at first slip.
Tirumalsetti Sulman, who had looked sharp for his 20, then edged a Dwayne Bravo bouncer to wicketkeeper Pinal Shah to leave Deccan on 37-2 in the sixth over.
Deccan captain Adam Gilchrist (25) was bowled in the 10th over by Rohan Raja playing across the line. Dwayne Smith was the next wicket to fall as he looked to pull Sanath Jayasuriya in the 13th over and was clean-bowled, leaving Deccan on 85-4.
Sharma tried to accelerate the scoring, but mis-hit a Malinga full toss and was caught by Dwayne Bravo running in from long on.
Rao was then run out in the final over by a Bravo throw to wicketkeeper Shah.
