Levi, playing for the Mumbai Indians, opened the batting alongside Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar in the opening game against two-time defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, as they set about chasing a modest 113 for victory.

But despite Tendulkar's presence, Levi took centre stage in Chennai, smashing 50 runs off only 35 balls - a knock which included 6 fours and 3 sixes.

He was eventually dismissed by West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo with Mumbai's score on 69 after 7.5 overs, requiring only a further 44 runs for victory.

The 24-year-old made world headlines in February when he smashed a record 117 off 51 balls for South Africa against New Zealand in a T20 game in Hamilton.

It was that innings which prompted Mumbai to sign the Capetonian, reportedly for about $400 000 (R3,12 million).
