Rain has final say in Delhi

Delhi - Heavy showers proved too much for the IPL match between the Delhi Daredevils and the Pune Warriors at the Ferozshah Kotla in Delhi on Saturday, with the match being abandoned with no result.

Rain stopped play with the Delhi Daredevils on 56 for three in the 11th over in what was hardly a good advertisement for IPL-style explosive batting, and the no-result will be particularly irritating for them as it means they finish bottom of the log on nett run-rate.

The Pune Warriors had produced an excellent bowling display, led by young James Faulkner, the son of ex-Aussie rebel tourist Peter, who produced an extraordinary new-ball burst on IPL debut.

The left-handed Faulkner's first over was a maiden and he then delivered a top-class slower ball which yorked David Warner for 19.

South Africa's Alfonso Thomas produced a tidy new-ball spell of three overs for 15 runs to provide good support to Faulkner, but it was Shrikant Mundhe who claimed the second wicket.

Naman Ojha, who needs to improve on a glaring lack of footwork if he is to make it at the top level, swung and missed several times before he sliced a ball outside off stump from Mundhe to deep point. Ojha had struggled to eight off 19 balls.

Mitchell Marsh then produced a fantastic yorker that slipped under the bat like an eel to bowl Matthew Wade for 11.

South Africa's Colin Ingram was enjoying a bit of luck as he went into the rain delay on 13 not out off 12 balls, with Venugopal Rao yet to score.

The players and umpires can wait an hour before overs start being reduced in this bottom-of-the-log clash.

Faulkner took one for nine in his two overs, Mundhe one for six in one and Marsh one for 11. He had bowled one ball of his third over when the players went back into their changerooms.

Pune Warriors: MK Pandey, JP Faulkner, SC Ganguly, RV Uthappa (wk), Yuvraj Singh (capt), CJ Ferguson, S Rana, MR Marsh, SS Mundhe, R Sharma, AC Thomas

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
