Full scorecard

After losing the toss and being made to bowl first, KXIP made it count as they restricted the hosts to 99-9 in 20 overs with not a single batsman passing 25.

The chase was a breeze for the visitors with Adam Gilchrist and Mandeep Singh being the only two wickets to fall and the game being won off a no ball, which would have been another consolation wicket for the hosts had Mitchell Marsh not overstepped.

Gilchrist was caught at deep square leg off Angelo Mathews for 15 while Singh was clean bowled by Rahul Sharma for 31.

Manan Vohra, on debut, however played a sublime knock of 43 off 28 while David Hussey kept it slow and steady at the other end as the KXIP recorded their first ever win in their opening clash in the history of the tournament. In their innings, the Warriors got off to a terrible start with Praveen Kumar striking in the first over to dismiss Manish Pandey.

Pandey shuffled across his stumps and prodded a length ball which resulted in the batsman playing right onto his stumps and the stutter started as the Warriors were 1-1 after the first over.

Laxmi Suman followed a few overs later with Azhar Mahmood this time being the man to do the damage as the Warriors continued to go from bad to worse.

Not moving his feet, Suman got an edge to mid-off where Kumar took a good catch and the Warriors were stumbling at 21-2 after 5 overs.

A magnificent throw of Piyush Chawla from the deep then resulted in Marlon Samuels being run out and despite a valiant dive, the West Indian was sent on his way for 3 off 9.

Robin Uthappa then followed, after adding a very handy 19 off 23.

The batsman came stomping out his crease to Chawla, but the delivery didn't turn and just squeezed past his bat and onto his stumps instead as the Warriors slumped to 33-4 after 9.

Warriors skipper Angelo Mathews couldn't make a difference either and thanks to some brutal bowling from Parvinder Awana, the Sri Lankan was caught behind and sent back to the dugout for just 4.

With Ross Taylor still at the crease, there was some hope that the Warriors might make it to a respectable total, but a blinder of a catch from Gurkeerat Singh at fine leg sent the New Zealander on his way.

Taylor swung off his pads for what looked like a certain boundary, but Gurkeerat run in to his right and, once the fielder had realized the ball would beat him, flung himself fully outstretched towards the ball to clutch a magnificent catch and continue the calamity with the hosts in all sorts of trouble at 53-6 after 13.3

Mitchell Marsh had looked intent on saving some face for the home-side, but Ryan Harris rattled his stumps to send him on his way for 14 off 16 in the 17th over.

The tail couldn't do much to save face and with a wicket and a run out coming in the final two overs, the Warriors were dismantled and the KXIP were set a lowly target of 100.The Kings XI Punjab crushed the Pune Warriors by eight-wickets and 46 balls still remaining in their IPL clash in Pune on Sunday.
