Punjab beat Deccan Chargers

Kimberley – The Kings X1 Punjab beat the Deccan Chargers with one ball to spare on Saturday.

The Kings Xl won the toss and sent the Deccan Chargers in to bat first.

The first wicket to fall was that of Adam Gilchrest for 20, with the total on 31 in the third over.

Next to go was the other opener, Hershelle Gibbs, also caught, but off the bowling of spinner, Piyush Chawla for 13 and the total on 54.

In the ninth over, Suman was caught by Jayawardene off the bowling of Wilkin Mota for 27 well-played runs.

 The next wicket was Sharma who was caught behind off the bowling of Brett Lee for nine, in the 10th over and the total on 73.

The Chargers' 100 came off 92 balls, 6X4 and 5X6, in the 15th over, with Andrew Symonds on 17 and Venugopal Rao on 12.

Run out

Rao was the last batsman to be out, run out off the very last ball for 32 from 25 balls, while Symonds finished on 60 not out from only 36 balls (2X4 and 4X6), the total after 20 overs being 168 for the loss of 5 wickets.

Kings Xl Punjab were in trouble from the start of their innings. losing the first two wickets for 42 runs in the same over, but Kumar Sangakara and skipper, Yuraj Singh, steadied the ship and delighted the crowd with some powerful shots, taking the score to 90 for two after nine overs.

Sangakara 25 and Singh 18 were the next to lose their wickets, but Mahela Jayawardene and Irfan Pathan continued, taking the score to 116 before Pathan was well caught at third man by Maqsusi off the bowling of Suman for 10.

Jayawardene was run out by Ravi Teja with his score on 42, which included 1 four and 3 sixes and he faced only 27 balls. Brett Lee was the batsman to hit the winning run in an exciting finish to the match with one ball to spare.
