Kallis stars in KKR victory

Johannesburg - The Kolkata Knight Riders overwhelmed the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 48 runs in their IPL clash at a packed Eden Gardens on Sunday.

According to the supersport.com website, Jacques Kallis enjoyed a fine match with bat and ball, scoring 41 off 27 balls, before scalping three wickets in the Sunrisers' chase of the 181 runs to win.

Eoin Morgan ( 47 off just 21 balls) had provided the late impetus for the home side to post 180 for four, after Gautum Gambhir's steady 53 at the top of the innings had set the ideal platform on a slowish track.

In reply, the Sunrisers never really got going, as the Kolkata bowlers, led by Kallis's three for 13, simply throttled them out of the contest.

The debutant franchise eventually ended their innings on 132 for seven.

Parthiv Patel (27) and Cameron White (34) gave the visitors early hope, with an opening stand of 57 in nine overs, but Kallis removed both of them to really set them back.

Sachithra Senanayake also put the skids on the visitors, his four overs costing just 18 runs.

Skipper Kumar Sangakarra could only muster two runs before falling, taking the last real hope for a Hyderabad upset.

Thisara Perera chalked up a defiant 36 in the middle order, but it was ultimately in vain.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, the Knight Riders saw Gambhir and Manvinder Bisla add 50 in just 40 balls, to lay the platform for the massive total.

Morgan clubbed three sixes and five fours, including 22 off the 18th over, as the Knight Riders finished the innings with a flourish.

In reply, the Sunrisers couldn't build any momentum, and the Knight Riders wrapped up a comfortable victory, the second at their Eden Gardens fortress.
