IPL speculation dismissed

Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa's chief executive, Gerald Majola, on Friday dismissed speculation that the Indian Premier League (IPL) might be coming to South Africa.

Earlier, News24 reported that the second IPL Twenty20 tournament could be destined for local shores.

Rumours have been circulating that the cash-flush tournament, held over a period of some six weeks in India, was headed this way after the Indian Government’s stated concerns over security following recent terror attacks on the Subcontinent.

According to the website, a reputable source was quoted as saying that discussions were underway which appeared favourable.

"Reading between the lines I think it will happen."

It is understood that the event may take place in South Africa shortly after the finish of the domestic season and the end of the five-match one-day series against Australia.
