Chennai cruise past Delhi
Chennai - The Chennai Super Kings completed a dominant performance over the Delhi Daredevils, as they won their IPL clash by nine wickets at the MA Chidabaram Stadium on Saturday.
Having restricted their hosts to just 114/5, the Super Kings then cruised to their target in 15.2 overs, losing just the wicket of Mike Hussey on the way.
Murali Vijay knocked up a calm 48 not out of 40 balls, with five fours and a six included in his fine innings.
Hussey himself had chipped in with a breezy 38 off 32 balls, hitting as many boundaries as his partner in an opening stand that reached 75 after ten overs.
When the Aussie veteran was caught by Mahela Jayawardene off Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina entered the fray to club two sixes and a four in a quick 28 not out off 20 balls.
Earlier, a Ben Hilfenhaus triple burst had ripped the heart of the Delhi top order, as the Aussie swing merchant accounted for David Warner, Virender Sehwag and Naman Ojha, to leave the Daredevils tottering at 24/4.
Yogesh Nagar brought some respectability to the total with a responsible 43 not out off 47 balls, but 114 was never going to be enough against the powerful Chennai line-up.
The likes of MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo, as well as the explosive Albie Morkel weren’t even needed, though Morkel contented himself with a fine spell of bowling (1-15 in four overs) to assist Hilfenhaus at the other end.
R Ashwin’s tight spin (1-17) also kept the noose firmly on the Delhi middle-order, as the Super Kings enjoyed a great night’s work in Delhi.
