Cape Town - The Proteas women, like the men, are on their way home from the ICC World Twenty20 in India.
It was a disappointing campaign for captain Mignon du Preez and her charges, who made the semi-finals of the tournament in 2014.
Before leaving for India, Du Preez had said that a semi-final place this year was a bare minimum, but that she was quietly optimistic that the side could achieve even more.
Losses to Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka sealed South Africa's fate, with the recurring problem in the batting department and an inability to accelerate at key intervals.
Outside of the Ireland match, which the Proteas won comfortably, South Africa posted scores of 102/6, 99 all out and 104/7 in their three defeats.
It left them second from bottom in Pool A, but Du Preez took to Twitter to vow that the ladies would bounce back.
Would have loved to go home under different circumstances but we will use these stumbling blocks as stepping stones&come back stronger#WT20
