Sri Lanka reach 135/6

Mahela Jayawardene's 81 proved to be the anchor of the Sri Lanka innings as they were limited to 135 for six in the opening match of the World Twenty20 against New Zealand at the Guyana National Stadium on Friday.

Shane Bond took 2/35 but was the most expensive of the Kiwis' attack.

Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and chose to bat first.

Sri Lanka gave an international debut to 20-year-old right-hand batsman Dinesh Chandimal.

Chinthaka Jayasinghe, Suraj Randiv, Thissara Perera and Nuwan Kulasekara were the four players omitted from Sri Lanka's eleven.

New Zealand left out Kyle Mills, Aaron Redmond, Rob Nicol and Ian Butler from their starting lineup.
