Karachi - Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene won the toss and decided to bat in the first day-night international against Pakistan at the National Stadium in Karachi on Tuesday.

Pakistan brought back fit-again paceman Shoaib Akhtar in their four-pronged pace attack, leaving out the regular off-spinner Saeed Ajmal. The 33-year-old Akhtar played his last one-day against India in November 2007.

He missed all three matches in Pakistan's last series against the West Indies, in November last year.

As expected, Sri Lanka included both their spinners Muttiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis alongside three seamers.

Pakistan: Shoaib Malik (capt), Khurram Manzoor, Salman Butt, Younus Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, Rao Iftikhar
