Cape Town - Proteas coach Gary Kirsten has given his players two days off before they continue their assault on the World Twenty20 title.
The South Africans will spend two nights in the southern Sri Lankan town of Bentota, before travelling to Colombo, the venue for their Super Eight campaign starting on Friday. The squad was initially booked to travel directly from Hambantota to Colombo after their final ICC World Twenty20 Group C match against Sri Lanka on Saturday.
However, Kirsten decided to alter the initial arangements.
“We have had a hectic touring schedule over the last few months and we felt the next couple of days would be a great opportunity for the players to get away from cricket and to recharge their resources," Kirsten said via a statement released to the media on Sunday.
“We have seen the positive impact that a break can have on the players and the change of scenery will no doubt add to that.
“Our preparation leading into a congested Super Eight schedule is focused on quality rather than quantity, and this coming week will give us the adequate time to prepare well.”
The Proteas beat Sri Lanka by 32 runs in a rain-affected match on Saturday.
