London - According to The Cape Times website, Proteas spearhead Dale Steyn has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final against England at The Oval.
Steyn failed a late fitness test after he sustained a hip-muscle strain.
Steyn has struggled with injuries during the tournament, suffering a side strain in a warm-up game against Pakistan that ruled him out of the first two games of the tournament.
Steyn was instrumental in the Proteas beating the West Indies in Cardiff when he bowled Marlon Samuels to bring South Africa back into the game.
Steyn is another blow to a South African pace attack that has already lost frontline bowler Morne Morkel.
Captain AB de Villiers said despite the setbacks, he still believed South Africa had what it takes to beat England.
“Not having him in the side will be big for us, but then again, like I said, we’re playing good cricket and we’re confident we can beat England without Dale,” De Villiers said.
Steyn will be replaced by Rory Kleinveldt.
