Holdstock makes debut

Johannesburg - Adrian Holdstock will make his international umpiring debut when he stands together with South Africa’s top official, Marais Erasmus, in the first T20 International between the Proteas and Australia at Sahara Park Newlands on Thursday, October 13.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday announced both its own officials and the International Cricket Council (ICC) officials for the Australian tour.

Both Holdstock and Erasmus belong to the Boland provincial umpiring body so it will be a notable day for the Boland Cricket Board as well.

“I am very excited and honoured to get my chance at international level,” commented Holdstock. “I am particularly excited that my first game should be at Newlands because that was where I learned my cricket.”

A quality all-rounder, Holdstock was the outstanding cricketer produced by Wynberg Boy’s High in the 1980s and was unlucky not to represent SA Schools. At first-class level he represented both Western Province and Boland. When not involved with umpiring he is a full-time coach at Somerset College.

A natural all-round sportsman he also played both rugby and soccer and provincial age group level.
