Hauritz spins Oz to victory

Melbourne - Pakistan were bowled out for 251 just after lunch on the final day of the first test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday, handing the hosts a 170-run victory.

Starting the day on 170/3, Pakistan lost two wickets in the first over of the day to Mitchell Johnson.

Overnight batsman Umar Akmal (27) was the first to depart, edging a fullish delivery to Brad Haddin behind the stumps. Even though the visitor initially queried whether the ball was gathered cleanly, the umpires ruled in Haddin's favour after numerous replays.

The stalwart of their first innings, Misbah-ul-Haq, was not given the chance of doing so again, as he tentatively pushed at the good delivery the very next ball, got the edge, and Haddin completed the dismissal.

Kamran Akmal and the Pakistan captain, Mohammad Yousuf, kept the hosts at bay for 15 overs, before Akmal (30 off 48 balls) was lured out of his crease by a flighted delivery from Nathan Haurtiz, and could only watch Haddin cleaning up his stumps behind him.

Mohammad Aamer could not survive Hauritz's next ball and another Australian bowler was sitting on a possible hat-trick.

Meanwhile, Yousuf completed his 32nd test half-century and was the unwilling spectator of the carnage at the other end of the pitch.

Abdur Rauf's stumps were rattled by a ball from Doug Bollinger off his pads onto his wickets, and Hauritz terminated the innings, removing Yousuf for a resolute 60 (140 balls, seven fours), followed by Saeed Ajmal for 10, to collect his first five wicket haul.

He finished off with 5/101.

The second test starts in Sydney on Jan 3.
