Gogga new Cobras coach

Cape Town - Western Cape Cricket on Tuesday announced the appointment of Paul Adams as the new Cape Cobras coach. Adams will report for duty on July 1, giving the team a three-month preparation period before the new season.

WCC chairperson, Peter Cyster, said, "Adams had shown his solid cricket credentials as a player in 45 Test matches and more recently as the Western Cape Academy coach, high performance spin-bowling consultant to Cricket South Africa and a top flight television analyst - and the WCC backed him to succeed in a job with high expectations".

CEO Andre Odendaal said, "There is a risk in going for a relatively young coach, but "Gogga" has that X-factor and we have a great squad which we believe can keep up the good performances of five trophies in the last four years. He is the face of the future and represents what we stand for as a brand".

WCC has also put in place a new leadership trio that will provide support to the new coach.

Salieg Nackerdien becomes the Cobras’ technical coach, Justin Ontong the new captain and Dane Vilas, who has recently played himself into the national T20 team, becomes vice-captain.

Adams said, "My experience in all forms of the game at the highest level, has given me real insight to the pressures modern cricketers face. I think this will be invaluable in creating good relationships and understanding with our current players. We also want to be a winning team, and while I will be in charge on the playing side, the focus will be on working as a group at all levels so that the Cobras can maintain their high standards and a “watchability” which appeals to the best fans in the country".
