Bloemfontein – One of the Proteas’ so-called 438 heroes, Herschelle Gibbs, may be entertaining Australian crowds this coming season.
Gibbs has confirmed that there is a chance that he will play for the Queensland Bulls.
The 36-year-old batsman of the Cape Cobras is no longer playing first class cricket and will look at options between the MTN40 and Pro20-series.
“With all the SuperSport games here from December and our Pro20-series only starting at the end of January, it’s one of the options. I’d like to stay busy, but everything is still up in the air right now,” Gibbs said on Monday.
Australia’s KFC T20 Big Bash is played from December 30 to February 5.
One of the Bulls’ biggest stars, Ryan Harris, plays with Gibbs in Yorkshire in England.
They are also team-mates at the Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League.
A move by Gibbs looks increasingly likely following the retirement of England player Andrew Flintoff after knee surgery.
Prior to his retirement, Flintoff was due to link up with the Bulls.
A spokesperson for Queensland Cricket, Stephen Gray, confirmed that they are considering their options with regards to an additional player.
“We had an agreement with Andrew Flintoff prior to his retirement, but I’m not aware of any negotiations between us and Herschelle or his management. Any link to the Bulls appears to be purely speculation.”
Meanwhile, Gibbs hopes to play with the Proteas at the World Cup in 2011.
“Definitely. It’s one of the things that still keeps me going and the blood pumping.”
