Gerald Majola 'lied' - audit

2011-08-03 10:16

Johannesburg - A forensic audit report indicates that Cricket SA (CSA) chief executive Gerald Majola allegedly lied to the federation's board about receiving bonus payments, The Star reported on Wednesday.

According to the newspaper, the audit conducted by KPMG apparently found that Majola had breached the Companies Act in four instances.

Majola and former CSA chief operations officer Don McIntosh had "worked hand in hand and jointly calculated, determined and authorised Indian Premier League bonuses without referring to any other CSA official or body", the report said.

"They consequently ... calculated their own bonuses."

Majola received R4.15 million in bonus payments, according to the report, between May 2009 and May 2010, amounting to more than twice his annual salary.

CSA said in a statement at the weekend it had accepted the findings of the KPMG report and would seek legal advice.

"There is possible irregular conduct with respect to the Companies' Act and the fiduciary duties of directors," the federation said.

    Majola should resign!!!

      Creeky - 2011-08-03 10:50

What is it will POWER and MONEY? Why, when a person steps into a position of Power, they always seems to FILL THEIR POCKETS TO THE BRIM.... thinking that it is "DUE TO THEM"??????????????? This is a DAILY occurance in South Africa... Strangest thing of all... if this happens in a Govt DEPARTMENT... it gets SWEPT under the proverbial Rug...(see Zapiro's latest cartoon) and if it happens in a Sports ORganisation, like CSA, ALL SORTS of LIES, DENIALS and EXCUSES will be uttered by the guilty official...remember Leonard Chuene? Nothing different here, involving Majola... other than an E Class Merc that Chuene 'bought' for R1-00... Throw his AR5E in JAIL!!!

      GetReal - 2011-08-03 10:58

No ... he should be fired!

      Nifty - 2011-08-03 11:18

No, he should go to jail...

      Green Oaks - 2011-08-03 14:47

Cas Naidoo has gone very quite.

  • Cool Sunk - 2011-08-03 10:41

Problem is that the federation's president Mtutuzeli Nyoka, sounded the alarm bells as he was left devastated that he did not get a slice of the pie. Silly Majola, had you involved him in the plot, you would have gotten away with it...

      Mourinho1 - 2011-08-03 11:27

how about concluding that Dr Nyoka rang the bell be cause he is a man of integrity?...your comment is really not Cool sunk...

      Tolerant - 2011-08-03 12:12

He too lied, both should resign.

      Cool Sunk - 2011-08-03 13:18

Well Mourinho, if that train of thought gets you to sleep at night, so be it!!!

      roboman1 - 2011-08-03 12:30

hahaha, yes that would be the way of the old nats and the old RSA, the minister of finance needed at least a few liquidations behind them, and this lot seem pretty much the same

  • Serias - 2011-08-03 10:57

This is standard practise in any BEE and AA environment!!

    Tronk toe met die skelms!

  • Hagar - 2011-08-03 11:06

I can't understand the problem? We knew they wanted to spend more on AA and BEE. Surely they went the cheaper route, distributing to the few and not the many, look at the cost savings against having to distribute country wide!!

  • bosegoos - 2011-08-03 11:14

Another case where a sports administrator acted to serve his own interests. This guy should be expelled ASAP, we need administrators whose main goal it is to serve the interests of the sport and not to enrich himself.

Whereever you place an ANC cadre in a position of power you have a 95%+ of corruption taking place. Name me one where this has not happened? They are all corrupt. Quite clearly their brains are wired differently!!!!

      frodosfool - 2011-08-03 12:20

Brains? What brains? I think you are jumping to conclusions here...

  • AndV - 2011-08-03 11:39

It is not just about resigning here, these actions requires court/criminal proceedings. So Mr Khan did not know anything bout this? What a disgracefull clan! Is this the transformation black people are crying for? Why do we see this in all the "Transformed" state institutions. Everything is raped and destroyed. This is unfortunately the reality in our once prosperous country.

  • Brian Smith - 2011-08-03 11:42

Re my ealier comment. Did this ever happen when we had the best in Ali Bacher's time?? No it tells a story that our black friends cannot deny.. Sad it comes down to race.

      anonymous - 2011-08-03 12:36

What about Don McIntosh (former CSA COO, who was in cahoot with Majola); is he also black? What about the CSA board who tried to put this matter under the carpet; are they all black? What about the man who exposed all this (Dr. Nyoka CSA President) & the same MAN who was fired by the same board for trying to expose this act of corruption and was only saved by court; is he white? The answer is a big NO. This has got nothing to do with race; Majola has always been protected by his employers and the media whilst the facts remain that he's not produced a single high quality African player (e.g. Ntini under Bacher) That is why govt and the ruling party was always criticising his leadership. So please check your facts first my brother before u.......

  • Coconut - 2011-08-03 11:48

I can put my c%#k on a block that he is a registered cANCer supporter. In order for you to be a cANCer supporter you MUST be a thieving, corrupt, devious, deceitful s of s b. This is why he was made head of CSA in the first place.

  • eksgatvol - 2011-08-03 11:54

Where will this all stop one day?- I ask myself. We gave them everything already- now they are stealing from themselves! What people can still believe they will get anything from this government?- surely someone must stand up and say enough is enough! Join the A_C and get richer day by day! "My comrades will vote for me, I will promise something, steal our countries money, but don't worry- be happy- we will give you free hand outs every year!" BBE Or AA- Wake up because there will be nothing left to steal or hand out the way your "Comrades at the top" are enjoying themselves with money that's supposed to help you!

  • malcolm - 2011-08-03 11:55

When it comes to Sports Administration in this country, we never learn, do we? Time to start appointing those with a passion for the game and not the money!!

      christine - 2011-08-03 13:58

Taking an unauthorised bonus is theft. The money should be recovered and Those involved should be crimanally charged. A jail sentance would be appropriate. Other people go to jail for much less.!!

  • jockvanwyk - 2011-08-04 17:29
