Gayle eager to move on

Leeds - West Indies captain Chris Gayle believes his side can bounce back from the "disaster" of their Test match humbling by England in the upcoming one-day series.

The first of three limited overs internationals between the teams takes place at Headingley on Thursday - just days after England wrapped up a 2-0 Test series win with an innings and 83 run victory at the Riverside, which came on the back of an equally convincing 10-wicket success at Lord's.

But left-handed opening batsman Gayle, whose brand of aggressive strokeplay is ideally suited to the one-day game, hopes a change of format will also bring a change of form.

"The Test series was a disaster for us so we're going to try and put that behind us and we're starting a new series now," said Gayle. "We want to get off to a good start and get some momentum going.

"The majority of the guys who are in the ODI squad will also be in the World Twenty20 squad and I'm sure this series will be a benefit for us going into that tournament (which takes place in England in June)."

The West Indies squad for this series has been bolstered by the inclusion of several one-day specialists, including all-rounder Dwayne Bravo who arrives from a successful spell in the Indian Premier League with the Mumbai Indians.

But for all that their side boasts the likes of Gayle, Fidel Edwards and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the West Indies have still lost their last four one-day series against major opposition.

That included a 3-2 reverse against England in the Caribbean earlier this year where coach John Dyson's failure to correctly interpret the Duckworth-Lewis rule helped Andrew Strauss's men to victory in Guyana.

"We've been a lot stronger in one-day cricket but at the same time we've lost the last few series," admitted Gayle.

"It will be good to get back to winning again, which will lead in well to the Twenty20 World Cup."

"It's good to have Dwayne Bravo back. He's been brilliant in the IPL with bat and ball so at least he's been playing cricket.

"He is the sort of player that brings a lot of different strengths to the team with his batting, bowling and fielding."
