Johannesburg - Robbie Frylinck, the Highveld Lions all-rounder, has been given a reprimand following a disciplinary hearing on March 28 with the South African Institute for Drugs in Sport (SAIDS).
Frylinck was given a routine drugs test after the recent match between the Lions and the Chevrolet Knights and tested positive for sibutramine which is a substance found in slimming tablets. He had requested clearance from the Lions’ medical team before taking it and this was given.
Frylinck pleaded guilty to taking the substance but, because of the circumstances of having checked it first, he was given a reprimand.
He is thus cleared to take up his contract with the Delhi Daredevils at the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Tony Irish, CEO of the South African Cricketers’ Association, commented: “Although Robbie followed the team protocol before taking the tablets this case illustrates the risks when players take unregulated supplements. In cricket, as in all sports, we support anti-doping measures and players need to constantly guard against the risks.”
