'Frustrated' Bodi joins Lions

Christo Buchner

Centurion - Gulam Bodi, one-time favourite son of the Titans, will with immediate effect be available for the Highveld Lions.

Bodi’s relationship with the Titans, whom he has represented with success for the past six seasons, has soured to such an extent that it was mutually agreed that his contracted would be terminated.

While a media release was sent out at the weekend in which the Titans and Bodi express their thanks to one another, it’s no secret that the player was very frustrated because he did not get more playing time.

Bodi admitted on Sunday that he was frustrated at being sidelined, but added that he had experienced good times at the Titans.

As aggressive top-order batsman he had played a major role in the Titans’ success in limited-overs cricket in recent seasons.

He is a major signing for the Lions and is likely to feature immediately in the Pro20 competition that starts this week.

Titans chief executive Elise Lombard praised Bodi for his role in their success since joining them, but added in the press release that there is a time to come and a time to go.

“We wish Gulam all the best for the rest of his career,” she said.

Henry Davids’s move from the Cape Cobras to Centurion at the start of this season was the beginning of the end for Bodi. Davids was picked ahead of him in the top order.

However, Bodi believes that he still has a lot to offer as a player and that his cricket career will get momentum at the Lions again.
