Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa mourned the death on Wednesday of Judge Mahomed Jajbhay, a former member of its General Council and a past chairperson of the Gauteng Cricket Board.
"It is with great sadness that we received the news of the sad loss of Judge Mahomed Jajbhay," said CSA president Mtutuzeli Nyoka.
"His passing is not only a loss for South African cricket, but for the nation as a whole as he improved the lives of thousands of South Africans through cricket and the judiciary.
"CSA will continue to articulate through its members all the noble principles he stood for.
"Our thoughts are with his family and friends and we pray that the Almighty will give them strength at this difficult time."
Gerald Majola, CEO of CSA Judge Mahomed Jajbhay was a passionate supporter of cricket and all the goodness that is inherent in the spirit of this great game.
"He played a major role in the unification of South African cricket in the early 1990s and went on to become a leading administrator with both CSA and GCB.
"At the time of his untimely death, he was a member of CSA's Legal and Governance Committee and so he served the game he loved so much right to the end.
"He was a very competitive opening batsman for the then Transvaal under the auspices of the SA Cricket Board.
"I deem it an honour and a privilege to have known him as a player and as an administrator.
"We in cricket will all miss him and our condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues".
