SA 'A' call on Gibbs

Johannesburg - Herschelle Gibbs has been called up to the South Africa 'A' squad for Tuesday's one day tour match against England in Potchefstroom.

This is one of three changes brought about by injury and other reasons.

The three players to drop out are Henry Davids, who has suffered a thumb injury, Robin Peterson, who has indicated his intention to sign a Kolpak contract with Derbyshire and is thus ineligible for any CSA representative teams, and Ryan McLaren who debuted for the Proteas in Friday night's Pro20 loss to England.

With Wayne Parnell still on the injury list, the selectors felt that McLaren could end up playing three matches in less than a week with the one-day international series against England starting on Friday.

The replacements - all from the Cape Cobras - are Gibbs, Andrew Puttick and Rory Kleinveldt.

"Herschelle has shown excellent form in recent MTN40 matches," said selection convener Mike Procter, "and this match will give him a further opportunity to press his case for an international recall.

"He is showing the consistency we want from him and his last innings was a match-winning century.

"The door is not closed to him or indeed to anybody else who produces the goods in domestic cricket.

"Both Puttick and Kleinveldt impressed for the Cobras in the Champions League competition."

South Africa 'A' squad:

Hashim Amla (captain), CJ de Villiers, Dean Elgar, Herschelle Gibbs, Rory Kleinveldt, Heino Kuhn, Morne Morkel, Andrew Puttick, Rilee Rossouw, Rusty Theron, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Vaughn van Jaarsveld
