Centurion - Proteas fast bowler Makhaya Ntini will create another memorable piece of cricketing history this week when he runs out in his 100th Test, becoming only the fifth South African, after Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher, Shaun Pollock and Gary Kirsten, to reach this milestone.
To celebrate Ntini’s century, his sponsors PUMA have produced a pair of embroidered 100th Test boots for him to wear. PUMA has also produced limited edition 100th Test t-shirts which will be supplied to Ntini’s fans to wear at the ground to show their support for this tremendous cricketing achievement.
“PUMA is proud to have been associated with Mak through his amazing career. We thank him for his loyal support both on and off the field and in this Test in particular we hope to see some more magic from the Mdingi Express!” says PUMA SA marketing director Brett Bellinger.
Fans have the opportunity to meet and congratulate their hero as PUMA has also arranged an autograph session at Cricket Horizons in the week of the Test.
Career highlights include being the only South African cricketer to have taken 10 wickets (five in each innings) at Lord’s, an achievement which ensures he shares illustrious company on the ground’s Honours Board as one of only 10 visiting bowlers, in over 100 years of cricket, to take 10 wickets in a Test match at Lord’s. Other names on this short list include West Indies legends Courtney Walsh, Malcolm Marshall and Andy Roberts.
Ntini’s best test bowling figures are 13-132 versus the West Indies in Port of Spain, and he is the second highest wicket taker in South African history with 388 - only his former strike bowling partner Shaun Pollock (421) has taken more wickets. And only Pollock has bowled more deliveries for South Africa.
