JOHANNESBURG - Proteas coach Mickey Arthur probably echoed the feelings of both camps when he said he was disappointed that the first of five one-day internationals between South Africa and England had been washed out at the Wannderers on Friday.

"It is very frustrating. We were looking forward to getting stuck into the series," Arthur said.

"We felt we picked up good momentum in the Standard Bank Pro20 Series and our players are raring to go."

Spectators holding tickets to Friday's match will be able to claim a refund. The details of the procedure for refunds will be announced early next week.

S.A can win every match and it still wont make a difference! They can be ranked no1 odi side but will never truely be no1 until they win a an icc tournament and bury the stigma of being chokers by finally living up to their potential. Being ranked top batsmen bowlers or all rounders means bugger all if u cant deliver on the big stages, and please coaching staff....whenever their is a possibility of rain and SA wins the toss BAT FIRST we have mucked iup too many times to put pressure on ourselves and choke on every occassion!!! it does't matter if u loose by 1 or2 or even draw and loose. A win is a win and a loose is a loss!!! To the players and management get it right!!! P.S get rid of the people who dont belong and perform in the side anymore, they may have been great or play with passion thats unrivalled, but if they are not doing the job put the people who can do the job!!!.......S.A SUPPORTER!!!!!

a statement from our cricket coach. Wow about time, even if a lame statement. We all are disappointed, Dont need the coach to tell us that. What a lame duck.

Wayne, seeing as the only other venue that come close to the Wanderers and Centurion for attendences is Newlands, I dont see a problem in hosting the games at the grounds where crowds will actually show up, instead of having a half full crowd.

Use the time off to teach our players to read the Duckworth - Lewis Charts ...

At least it means that the chokers cant get white washed

Suppose everyone has their priorities, but to be NOT thankful for rain? Mr. Arthur go the Eastern and South Western Cape, look at all, look a farmer in the eyes, look starving animals in the eyes and we'll chat again. Cricket, which I love as much as any, is after all just a GAME?

Maybe Arthur doesn't understand the importance of rain in this country. Everyone depends on having water available to survive. If I have to choose between rain and cricket, rain it will be! I don't care if each and every match washes out!

some people will complain for just about anything.I think its in their makeup

Surely Cricket South Africa should know by now that the Transvaal is as a summer rainfall area. Our thunder storms usually start from 15h00 so why not start the T20/20 around 09h00 and leave out extended breaks until after the match. Most of the players could leave out lunch judging by their body masses.

I agree with Wayne, surely there must be a game at Durban,Cape Town and PE? What about Bloemfontein? The last 20/20 game at Centurion had lots of empty space on the stands? I live in Pretoria, so it is nice to see the cricket, but how many games are the same people going to watch, every time getting a ticket, drive there, splash out money for food and drink, and then back again? Give the other cities also a game, the pitches varies, conditions are different, etc. Or are we here only for the money, and not fo the cricket?

Spot on Wayne, warm and sunny in Cape Town this time of year, but no, they schedule most of the games in the rainy season in Gauteng.Well done.
NicNam11/21/2009 8:17 AM
Arthur is not honest, he prayed for rain. The national chokers love do do nothing.
Malcolm11/21/2009 8:02 AM
I agree with Wayne 100%! It is ridiculous that Gauteng gets so many matches- look at the Champions Trophy. Exclusively played in Gauteng! Then look at the Proteas' home Pro20 matches. We've played some 10-20 internationals at home, yet all but one have been played in Gauteng! But don't bother addressing Cricket SA on this. They will ignore you. Believe me I have tried. Some "Vaalies" think the whole world revolves around their dirty, crime-ridden province!

No need to go to hell - they already live there.

Wayne: WHAT A CHOP !!!!
Burtfred11/21/2009 6:46 AM
@Wayne Yes, but out of the 80% that don't live in Gauteng, the vast majority of those people have absolutely no inclination or ability to attend a cricket match. Some have never heard of the game. Where should the games be payed Wayne? Poffadder? Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein?
Michael11/21/2009 6:27 AM
It also hasn't occured to them that Gauteng is famous for its summer rain. So any day/ night game will be subject to being washed out, or being decided by the Duckworth Lewis method and everyone knows our Proteas are lousy at calculations.
Wayne11/20/2009 9:28 PM
It seems that those who pretend to run cricket in SA have taken advice from SAFA when it comes to scheduling cricket matches in this country. Gauteng now gets around 75% of all games. The fools running cricket have not worked out that 80% of the countries human inhabitants live outside this area, and also deserve a chance to watch live cricket. They can all go to hell.
