Nairobi - Cricket Kenya on Monday accepted the decision by Eldine Baptiste to quit as national coach three months before the end of his two-year contract.

Baptiste's continued position may have been in doubt after his reported clash with the team's players during the World Cup in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, where Kenya lost all their group matches.

"Following discussions between the former West Indian all-rounder and the national cricket board (and), in the wake of Kenya's unacceptable showing at the Cricket World Cup 2011, the parties have agreed that Baptiste will leave his position with immediate effect," said CK chief executive Tom Sears.

Baptiste took over the Kenya coaching duties in October 2009, after successful periods coaching in South Africa and the West Indies.

But during his tenure, the results and performances of the team have been disappointing ,culminating in the winless World Cup campaign.

"Both Cricket Kenya and Baptiste have decided that there is a need for change. We will now conduct an extensive recruitment process to find a new national coach and will be inviting applications from both within Kenya and overseas," added Sears.
