Donald to coach in Zimbabwe

2010-08-18 15:21

Harare - Former Test fast bowlers Jason Gillespie of Australia and Allan Donald of South Africa say they are happy to work in Zimbabwean domestic cricket and are looking forward to help rebuild the sport in the African country.

The pair were presented on Wednesday as head coaches of franchises in the Zimbabwean league for the 2010/11 season.

In line with some political reforms, Zimbabwe cricket has been improving following feuds between players and administrators, a factor which has resulted in players, coaches and officials return to the country.

Gillespie says "things are looking up here in Zimbabwe. The right noise is coming out. To be part of it is humbling."

    Please rephrase that in English...

  • Ross - 2010-08-18 16:22

Reckon they are being paid a hell of a lot money...and not in Zimbabwean Dollars!

  • Bob - 2010-08-18 16:28

No - to be part of that if financially lucrative. Shame on you for helping (even indirectly) prop up a maniac genocidal dictator and his band of thugs. There was a good reason why you would NOT have done (or even be able to do that) under apartheid - but somehow its okdokay in Zim. Disgusting.

there are prospects that all will be well in zim soon. its encouraging reading Gillespie's comment. big up to those who are putting effort to bring everything to normalcy. we are in it together.

  • Legend - 2010-08-18 17:02

Viva Zimbabwe Viva, Aluta continua Cde R.G. Mugabe your leadership is second to none. They thought they will collapse our country through their sanctions, shame on them.

  • Manny - 2010-08-18 19:08

We dont use Zim dollars anymore stop shamefully exhibiting your ignorance. Typical!

  • Apple - 2010-08-18 19:22

Legend that is a legendary opinion. Viva Zim viva.....

  • R.G. Mugabe - 2010-08-18 19:37

I hereby confirm that they will not be paid in Zim Dollars. Indeed we have adopted a 'dual currency' policy which means they may even earn more Rands than their South African counterparts. He who laughs last....... I thank you.

  • BoubleBullet - 2010-08-18 20:23's all 'bout the money.....dum dum doo doo doo doo... ...I am ashamed of you Alan.... .. my copy of "White Lightning" has just been the bin... ...don't mention my name when you say "Hello" to Bog Bob Mug...

  • Ray.B - 2010-08-19 03:44

Mugabe will not last another 5 years, Zim has bottomed out, already there are signs of improvement with respect to Sport and to an extent the economy.AD will bring substantial expertise to the Zim scenario and because the locals there are miles ahead of our mob he will mould a dominant cricket side good enough to compete and win internationally within the next 5 years..

  • DK - 2010-08-19 07:36

This can only be a good thing. There has been a whole generation of young Zimbabwean cricketers who have been lost, Good to see the money and effort going back in. In the end it will be the Zim cricket that will benifet most. Well done Allan! 2 years of being a head coach will look good his CV.

@legend, oh dear, i thought zimbos are better educated than our mob...
