Nottingham - India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni reversed a controversial dismissal for Ian Bell after the England batsman was controversially run out for 137 on the final ball of the afternoon session on Sunday.
Bell was at his stylish best having registered his 15th test hundred as he guided England back into a position of strength in the match. But a freak dismissal occurred on the stroke of tea that may have had a serious bearing on the result of the match with England leading by 187 and just three wickets down.
Eoin Morgan clipped Ishant Sharma to square leg and the batsmen completed three runs and then looked to have presumed the ball had crossed the boundary as fielder Praveen Kumar gave the impression it was a four.
As umpire Asad Rauf waited for confirmation whether it was a four or a three, Kumar returned the ball and Abhinav Mukund eventually took off the bails.
The batsmen, thinking it was tea, were out of their crease and returning to the pavilion. After some discussion Bell was given out to the huge displeasure of the home crowd.
The umpires and the Indian team came out after tea to a chorus of boos but to general surprise Bell then appeared and continued his innings.
Thirty minutes after the break he had moved on to 144 Morgan was on 52 and the total stood at 293-3.
