Steyn to star in Sandler film

Cape Town - Proteas cricketer Dale Steyn is set to star in a Hollywood film alongside renowned comedy actor Adam Sandler.

Steyn was in Los Angeles last week to begin shooting for the movie, Family Moon, in which he guest stars alongside big acting names like Sandler and Drew Barrymore, as well as former NBA basketball star Shaquille O’Neal.

According to the Cape Argus, Steyn will play himself, a South African cricketer in the movie directed by Frank Coraci.

The film focuses on a couple who, after a disastrous blind date, find themselves stuck together with their children from a previous marriage.

While he doesn't plan a full-time acting career any time soon, Steyn said he thoroughly enjoyed the role.

“The whole thing was amazing. Adam was great. He really made me feel welcome. They all did,” said Steyn.

“The team at Warner Brothers and Happy Madison Productions were so friendly and professional.

“It was also great meeting people like Drew Barrymore and Shaq O’Neil.

“Shaq is huge. I come up to his shoulder.”

Steyn said - in true Adam Sandler style - that fans can expect the movie to be hilarious.

“I have to pitch/bowl to Drew’s son, whom Adam is coaching.

“In typical Adam Sandler style, we have a few issues as I bounce the ball instead of pitching over the plate. It’s going to be very funny.”

Injury ruled Steyn out of the Proteas' current tour to Sri Lanka. He will be back when they face Pakistan in the UAE in October.
