Mumbai - New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori plans to skip Sunday's World Cup match against Canada, to let his injured knee recover in time for the last Group A match against co-host Sri Lanka.
Vettori injured his right knee while attempting a catch in New Zealand's 110-run win over Pakistan at Pallekele, Sri Lanka, on Tuesday and was in some doubt for the remainder of the tournament.
Medical tests in Mumbai on Friday showed a mild strain to his cruciate ligament, the New Zealand Press Association reported, raising hopes he'll return for the March 18 match against the Sri Lankans.
After consulting a specialist in Mumbai, Vettori said, "The crucial thing is I should be able to continue on with the tournament."
