Cricket SA delays T20 launch

2012-02-06 15:11

Johannesburg - The launch of the Twenty20 Challenge has been indefinitely postponed, Cricket SA (CSA) said on Monday.

"The domestic T20 launch that was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 8 February at the Wanderers Club has been postponed until further notice," CSA said in a statement.

The T20 Challenge was scheduled to start on February 15, but the fixtures had not been finalised with less than two weeks to go.

A seventh team was expected to be named as a participant on Wednesday, joining the six South African franchises for the sponsorless competition.

With the national cricket body, and CEO Gerald Majola in particular, involved in an ongoing bonus saga, CSA was unable to secure sponsors for two competitions this season - the T20 Challenge and the One-day Championship.

The SuperSport Series, which concludes this week, was the only competition funded by an independent source.

this is truly laughable, if it wasn't so serious.

Disgraceful... token administrators have ruined South African Cricket

      John - 2012-02-06 16:19

"Token" administrators, are in my opinion, going to ruin all South African sports.

  • Sargon - 2012-02-06 15:33

They could not secure the neccessary match fixers in time, as they were all too busy rigging the Pakistan England test series. Once those fixers are back in action the T20 should commence.

  • John - 2012-02-06 15:34

This is unreal..... Gerald Majola return your bonus !!!!

  • Michael - 2012-02-06 15:35

i had booked tickets already and looking forward to this. big big let down to the fans out there.

Shame on you CSA, Shame on you.... Once a second rate sponsor is found & that is going to be challenge on it's own i guess i would be expected to fork out my hard earned cash and come to grounds to see my team play, well the truth is that this too will be highly unlikely.... SAD day for SA cricket indeed!!!

  • Riaan - 2012-02-06 15:48

The one tourno I was looking so much forward to ... shambles !

  • Anton - 2012-02-06 15:58

how is it possible that one bastard, yes you Majola can hold SA Cricket ransom? Step down right now and be prepared to take your punishment as a civillian. for too long has SA sporting codes been run by dictators!!

  • Paul - 2012-02-06 16:04

Hats off to SA businesses for sticking to their guns! At least somebody is doing something positive about corruption. They can cancel the T20 competition for all I care. If Sunfoil comes to Majola & Co's rescue again, I urge all consumers to boycott their products.

  • Deon - 2012-02-06 16:05

Maybe some sponsers will only get on board when Majola has left. Resign Mr Majola before you get thrown out.

  • Peter - 2012-02-06 16:05

So typical of Mickey Mouse administration, they should all resign and let people with HONEST interests control the sport.

  • John - 2012-02-06 16:33

    Sho. I am speechless.

  • alysonsamson - 2012-02-06 16:44

    Step down Mr. Majola!

  • alysonsamson - 2012-02-06 16:45

    Step down Mr. Majola!

  • Jaco - 2012-02-06 16:46

Gentlemen, The only problem is that you all still support them by going to tournaments like this. Stay HOME. If no money come in, someone will then take the fall.

  • William - 2012-02-06 17:55

This to me is indicative of CRICKET SA and the money grabbing fools who run the show. How sad for the future of the game in this country.

  • Reenen Stenekamp - 2012-02-06 20:21

T20 is a waste of time anyway. It's not even real cricket. No tournament? No problem!

  • Riaan - 2012-02-07 07:51

Wherever I look on the web I see fixtures. Not finalised? Pathetic

  • jacovdw - 2012-02-07 08:14
