Johannesburg - The Highveld Lions on Monday announced the team’s leadership for the 2015/16 season.

Stephen Cook was named captain for the four-day Sunfoil Series campaign as well as the One Day Cup, while Thami Tsolekile was named captain for the T20 competition.

Highveld Lions chairperson, Thabang Moroe, has shared the vision that the board wishes to achieve through these appointments.

“We have taken the experience from the past few seasons. Through this the board has implemented a captaincy structure that not only secures the depth of leadership within the franchise but also ensures that we give as many quality opportunities to players showing promise. This whilst still ensuring that the team on the field has the knowledge and expertise to guide them to many more match winning performances.”

Head coach Geoffrey Toyana has full faith in this group of individuals.

“Changes to the contracted players leading up to the season has given the opportunity to re-evaluate the captaincy of the team and I am confident that those that have been appointed will rise to the occasion when required.

“Expertise in the various formats ensures that we are ready for whatever the conditions might require of someone in the position of captain on the day.

“The team has fought hard to bring the Sunfoil Series trophy back home after 15 years and we are not about to let go of it again. That was an ideal end to the previous season but our focus is to rather add some more silverware to it,” Toyana concluded.
