Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday welcomed any decision by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) to hold an independent inquiry into the finances of CSA regarding the alleged misappropriation of R68 million.
CSA stated in a release last week that no money had gone missing and the funds in question had been used to finance the Indian Premier League on behalf of the Board of Control for Cricket in India when that tournament was held in South Africa in 2009.
“We would welcome such an inquiry,” commented CSA vice-president AK Khan. “We have every confidence that any such inquiry will find our finances to be in good order and in line with sound financial practices.
“We have said this all along. When our financial figures for the current year are audited and revealed at the annual meeting people will see how healthy our finances are and realise what a good job our CEO, Gerald Majola, and his management team are doing to provide the basis on which we can finance all our programmes, particularly on the development front, which are so vital to make cricket a truly national sport.”
Majola has already given instructions for SASCOC to be provided with the necessary financial information.
