Cricket SA mum on Majola snub

Johannesburg - The reasons for the dismissal of a special plea lodged on behalf of suspended Cricket SA (CSA) chief executive Gerald Majola could not be disclosed, CSA's lawyer said on Monday.

"I am not at liberty to disclose why the special plea was dismissed, but the reasons have been made known to both parties," said Nicholas Preston of Glyn Marias.

"All I can confirm is that the special plea was dismissed and that we were given a 17-page document to explain why.

"It would be difficult for me to summarise such a document for you."

Majola's lawyer, Pumezo David, of Knowles Husain Lindsay, has been unavailable for comment since advocate Karel Tip, chairperson of the disciplinary hearing, last week dismissed Majola's special plea and announced the hearing would go ahead this week.

"The disciplinary hearing was meant to start tomorrow (Tuesday), but it has been stood down to Wednesday morning," Preston said.

"The original hearing was scheduled to last six days, but some of those days have already been taken up with the special plea.
"We have scheduled two days this week and an additional few days next week."

Majola was suspended in March after a long-running bonus scandal following the 2009 Indian Premier League T20 tournament which was hosted by South Africa.

His hearing will take place behind closed doors at CSA's offices in Illovo, Johannesburg.
