CSA pays tribute to women

Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa CEO Gerald Majola has paid tribute to women working in cricket at a special lunch, held in honour of CSA’s hard working female head office staff.

Majola said: “CSA is fortunate to have such dedicated women involved in the administration of cricket in South Africa. For years, women have been making a mark in cricket, and that trend is gaining momentum every day.

“On behalf of the entire cricket family, I would like to salute all women working in cricket. You help us drive CSA’s vision of making cricket a truly national sport of winners.”

The lunch held at the Wanderers Club in Johannesburg on Friday, was graced by Morning Live presenter and 46664 ambassador, Leanne Manas, who spoke to the women about the importance of balancing family and work life, especially during busy times.

“It is wonderful to be here today, among women that are standing tall in a man’s world. You need to be saluted for the hard work that you put in to make cricket the success that it is.

“These are busy times, and often we forget about the importance of creating balance in our lives. It is vital that we find time to put ourselves first, and also celebrate our achievements as women.”

The women were grateful for the recognition and thanked CSA for taking time to acknowledge their contributions to the game.

CSA online media coordinator, Sipokazi Sokanyile, said: “It was a lovely afternoon and it feels so good to be appreciated in your work space, thank you Gerald. CSA is not just a company, it is a family where we band together during the tough times, and we celebrate all the good times together as well.

“Women’s month to me, is not just about a public holiday and a long weekend, but also a chance to sit back and think about what it really means to be a young woman, especially in the male dominated world of sport. Leanne Manas made me remember the importance of balance and maintaining my femininity in the midst of all the bats and balls. The best message I took from today was not to forget to be a phenomenal woman in everything that I do.”

Cricket Australia’s Leanne Russell, who is in South Africa for the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20), said she was delighted to be part of such a special celebration.

“I was very impressed with the focus that there is on women and the roles that they play in their various position of employment in South Africa, particularly women in cricket, who aren’t celebrated as much.

“Leanne Manas encapsulated a lot of things; what it’s like to be a professional, what it’s like to be working in a man’s world, what it’s like to be a working mother and a mother just at home as well. She had a lot to offer the room at large and indicated very well what life is like for each and every one of us. She was fantastic. I just want to thank Cricket South Africa for the lovely afternoon.”
