Cape Town - Griquas cricket stalwart Wendell Bossenger will pursue a career in professional golf after he received his tour card at the Bloemfontein Golf Club.
Bossenger is one of 32 players who received their tour cards at the club last week. This will enable him to participate in tournaments in the local Sunshine Tour from next year.
Bossenger, who played 199 first class matches and scored 6 361 runs, currently coaches Griquas' cricket side.
"Golf has always been one of my passions," he told the Volksblad newspaper.
"I've always wanted to become a professional player but never got the time.
"Griquas' match fixtures enabled me to try and get my tour card. Now I have achieved it."
However, the 35-year-old says he will by no means say goodbye to cricket.
"I still want to stay actively involved in cricket. One would just need to find a good balance between golf and cricket and make sure the one doesn't suffer due to the other," said Bossenger.
