Biff’s side crash in first game

Cape Town – Surrey’s bid for County Championship promotion under the leadership of long-time former Proteas Test captain Graeme Smith has faltered at the first hurdle.

The London-based side, at their home ground of The Oval, crashed by 10 wickets to Glamorgan in their opening four-day championship match of the English summer in Division Two on Thursday.

Surrey held the first-innings aces by 71 runs, but the catalyst for the defeat was their disastrous second knock – they were skittled for a flimsy 81 in 30.2 overs.

Smith had the very minor consolation of top-scoring with 18, although he was again dismissed by Graham Wagg – he had snared him for 19 the first time around – as the left-arm seamer captured six for 29.

Glamorgan were set 153 to win and romped to the target without setback in 45.4 overs, earning 20 points to Surrey’s five.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
