Whitewash will help Proteas

Johannesburg - South Africa's international cricket ranking will climb close to that of top-ranked Australia if it clinches a 3-0 win in the ODI series starting in Centurion on Wednesday.

The Proteas are in third position on 116 points in the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI rankings, while Australia are 14 points ahead in top spot.

Should South Africa secure a whitewash in the three-match series, it will join the tourists on 124 points, but will be placed below by a fraction of a point.

If the series result is reversed, however, Australia will rise to 133 points and the Proteas will drop to 111 points.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
