Johnson came into the game with 242 wickets at an average of 28.33, and a ruthless performance of 7/68 in South Africa's first innings moved the left-arm quick to one short of the milestone.

Playing in his 57th Test for Australia, Johnson's best figures in the format came against the same opposition.

In Perth in December 2008, Johnson took 8 for 61 against South Africa.
