Australia demolish Windies

Brisbane - Australia beat West Indies by an innings and 65 runs within three days of the first Test in Brisbane on Saturday.

Debutant Adrian Barath scored a maiden Test century, but the result was never in doubt as a lack of application from the rest of the batsmen saw all ten second innings wickets fall for 187 runs.

All the bowlers chipped in, but the slide was initiated by a devastating opening spell by Ben Hilfenhaus - he took 3/20 in his seven overs.

Earlier in the day, the West Indies continued their first innings on 134 for five, but despite Travis Dowlin's well-played 62 could not prevent losing the five remaining wickets as they were bowled our for 228 on the stroke of lunch.

Nathan Hauritz was the pick of the attack with 3/17 off six overs and Australia eagerly enforced the follow-on, leaving the visitors 252 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
