Cardiff - Australia brought in fast bowler Shaun Tait to their squad on Friday after off-spinner Nathan Hauritz was ruled out of the remainder of the one-day series away to England because of a foot injury.
Hauritz will now return to Australia for treatment on the injury, which has hampered him in the first two matches -- both of which England have won -- of the one-day series.
"Nathan Hauritz has developed pain in his left foot during the first two ODI's against England," said Australia physiotherapist Alex Kountouris in a Cricket Australia statement.
"While the pain was manageable in the first game, it became more severe during the second game.
"The pain is likely to be related to a previous foot injury and we have decided the best course of action is to withdraw Nathan from the current tour to allow sufficient time for it to recover.
"His return to training will be determined in the coming weeks."
Tait, who played in the Australia side that lost last month's World Twenty20 final to England in Barbados, is already in the United Kingdom where he is playing for Welsh county Glamorgan.
It was at Glamorgan's headquarters ground in Cardiff where England beat world champions Australia by four wickets on Thursday to go 2-0 up in the five-match series, having won by the same margin at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday.
An out and out fast bowler, Tait could inject some raw pace into Australia's attack and form a lively partnership with left-armer Doug Bollinger, especially as seamer Ryan Harris is struggling with a groin injury.
Australia's chairman of selectors, Andrew Hilditch, said: "In view of the injury to Nathan Hauritz and some concerns about the injury to Ryan Harris, the National Selection Panel (NSP) has made the decision to add Shaun Tait to the ODI squad for the remaining one-day games against England.
"Shaun is still very much in the thoughts of the NSP for the upcoming ICC World Cup (in Asia next year) and these games present Shaun with a great opportunity to again represent Australia in one-day cricket."
Harris's injury will continue to be monitored ahead of the third one-day international at Old Trafford on Sunday.
