Donald to haunt Proteas?

Johann de Jager

Bloemfontein  - Allan Donald will meet with Australian cricket bosses next Thursday about the possibility of being appointed bowling coach.

"White Lightning", as Donald was known in his playing days, was informed of the interview on Thursday.

The 44-year-old from Bloemfontein, who took 330 Test and 272 one-day wickets for South Africa, assisted New Zealand as bowling consultant at the recent Cricket World Cup.

He was instrumental in the Kiwis' shock quarter-final win over the Proteas.

The New Zealanders have subsequently offered him a long-term contract as bowling coach.

He was approached by Australia on the same day.

Donald said that New Zealand were aware of the latest development.

Should he stay on with the Black Caps, he will join up with the New Zealand side in June for the Emerging Players tournament in Brisbane.

If he ends up in the Aussie camp, he will travel with the team to South Africa at the end of September for a series of three Tests and five one-day matches.
