Aussie quickie to join Dolphins?

Durban - KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union (KWNCU) chief executive, Jesse Chellan, refused to comment on Wednesday about claims that Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait would join the Dolphins for this season's domestic Twenty20 competition.

"I can tell you we are busy in negotiations with some overseas professionals to join us," said Chellan.

"We are very close to finalising that process.

"It is difficult to put a time frame on when this will be a done deal, but I'm trying to finalise it for this week."

This comes after two Durban based newspapers reported that the specialist T20 paceman and West Indian Chris Gayle were on the Dolphins' shopping list.

Tait is, however, recovering from an elbow injury he picked up while playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

The injury also forced him to withdraw from playing country cricket for English club Surrey.

Tait, retired from Tests and one-day cricket, would be a formidable signing after the Dolphins released two important bowlers in recent months, with Jon Kent and Yusuf Abdulla no longer on their books.

They had, however, already recruited all-rounder Robbie Frylinck from the Highveld Lions and Dane Patterson of Western Province to bolster the bowling ahead of the new season.
