England put brakes on Oz

Melbourne - England's spinners helped restrict Australia to 147 for seven in the Twenty20 international at the MCG on Friday.

Aaron Finch top-scored for the hosts with an undefeated 53, but both Graeme Swann and Michael Yardy recorded miserly figures of 2/19.

Earlier, Australian captain Cameron White won the toss and elected to bat.

England won the first match of the two-game series on Wednesday in Adelaide by just one wicket from the last ball in a dramatic finish.

In doing so they set a new record of eight successive Twenty20 international wins.

Both nations retained the same teams that played on Wednesday.

Heavy rain in Melbourne early in the day threatened the match, but the skies cleared in time to allow play to go ahead.

The two teams next play a seven-match one-day series, starting here on Sunday.

Teams:

Australia:

DA Warner, SR Watson, AJ Finch, DJ Hussey, CL White (captain), SPD Smith, TD Paine (wk), MG Johnson, SNJ O'Keefe, B Lee, SW Tait

England:
IR Bell, SM Davies (wk), KP Pietersen, PD Collingwood (captain), EJG Morgan, LJ Wright, MH Yardy, TT Bresnan, CR Woakes, GP Swann, A Shahzad
