Arthur denies fixing claim

2010-11-08 17:29

Johannesburg - Former South Africa coach Mickey Arthur has denied suggesting a one-day international against Pakistan in 2007 was fixed, saying his comments were taken out of context.

"There is absolutely no foundation to this story whatsoever. Quite simply, my comments were taken completely out of context and I have never accused anybody of anything illegal," Arthur told Reuters on Monday .

"I had absolutely no firsthand experience of anything suspicious, let alone match-fixing in my five years of international cricket," he said.

The Pakistan Cricket Board served a legal notice on Arthur after South African website News24 quoted him as saying he had "strong suspicions" of match-fixing.

Pakistan collapsed dramatically to lose the fifth and decisive ODI against South Africa in Lahore three years ago.

Hey Mickey, you go Boy! As a man who has experience as a national coach in SA, we do not expect anything but you (now) denying these claims. It is what politicians, administrators and coaches in SA get conditioned to say when they are in sh----t; - deny anything and attack anyone and everything for quoting you "out of context". Fortunately (for you) your accusers in this case are Pakistani's - we average, mortal South Africans have since 1994 seen enough of these antics to be bull------ed by any similar denial or "out of context"- attacks. One bull-----ter deserves another - you go get those Paki's!!!!

With Mickey Arthur being an international cricketing figure, it is difficult for him to elude to match fixing for that particular game and it will have political repercussions. As a cricket supporter without any influence, I can give an opinion…I honestly feel that match was thrown as the decline was dramatic. It would be great if international sport was able to find a way to stop minorities, motivated only by financial gain, effecting results in certain international sporting events. .

Mickey Arthur is fortunately an honest man, I could never see him stooping so low as to be involved in such criminal practices.
